Creating New Accounts
If UVa Human Resources has already entered
your personal information in their database, usually your
UVa email account has already been created. You only need
to visit http://www.itc.virginia.edu/accounts/
to activate it. If you want your account created and start
working right away before your data has been entered into
the UVa system, please contact scm@virginia.edu
to have your UVa email account created. Either
way, you need to send eeadmin@virginia.edu
your UVa email id to have your ECE account
established. This process normally takes less than two business
days.
Connecting to the ECE Network
Always consult with the Computing Services
staff BEFORE connecting equipment to the ECE network. To obtain
an IP address and connect to the ethernet send email to
eeadmin@virginia.edu.
Depending on the urgency of your request we will attempt to
reply right away but most always within two business days.
The Computer Systems staff helps faculty,
staff and students with various computer software and hardware
problems, and provides advice on computer-related purchases.
The staff's regular schedule is from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday
through Friday. Our offices are on the second floor C-wing of
Thornton Hall.

Supported Equipment and Software
The ECE department supports and maintains
approximately 420 devices which include various models of
Unix workstations, PCs, Macs, printers, scanners, monitors,
and external disk storage units. These devices have a myriad
of device drivers, operating systems, and application software
associated with them. In order to provide support to such
a variety of hardware and software it is necessary to standardize
on a set of "preferred" hardware and software. Faculty,
staff, and students will find it to their advantage in terms
of computing services available if they choose items on the
"preferred" list of supported hardware and software.
